Excessive Heat Advisory — Race Saturday, Aug 15
Saturday Will Feel Like 100°F+
South San Antonio is running well above normal. With high humidity at dawn and open, exposed climbs at Pearsall Park, the heat index is expected to climb past 100°F before the last finisher. Treat this as a survival-and-finish day, not a PR day. Forecast is updated as race week develops — check the National Weather Service the night before.
Humid, near-dew-point air
Sun clears the treeline
Full exposure on the hills

Your 48-Hour Prep Plan
What you do in the two days before the gun matters more than anything you do on course.
48 Hours Out — Thursday
- Start pre-hydrating now: 1/2 oz of water per lb of body weight daily.
- Add electrolytes (sodium 300–600mg per bottle) — plain water alone won't cut it.
- Cut alcohol completely; it dehydrates you for 24+ hours.
- Lay out light-colored, loose, sweat-wicking kit — no cotton.
24 Hours Out — Friday
- Grab your packet 12–5 PM at the Edragon shop so race morning is stress-free.
- Eat salty carbs at dinner; salt helps you hold onto fluid.
- Freeze two bottles overnight and pack a cooler with ice and a towel.
- Sleep early — heat tolerance drops hard on short sleep.
Race Morning — Saturday
- Drink 16–20 oz with electrolytes 90 minutes before your start.
- Sunscreen, hat or visor, and sunglasses before you leave the car.
- Reset your goal pace: add 30–90 sec/mile for heat and the hills.
- Walk the aid stations. Rejuvenation stations are every mile — use every one.
Stop If You Feel This
- Chills or goosebumps in the heat
- Stopping sweating / dry skin
- Dizziness, nausea, or confusion
- Headache with a racing heartbeat
Walk to the nearest rejuvenation station and flag a volunteer. Medical support is on course all morning — there is no shame in stopping.
On-Course Heat Rules
- Start conservative — negative splits are nearly impossible in this heat.
- Drink at every rejuvenation station (every mile), even if you don't feel thirsty.
- Ice under the hat and in the singlet at every stop keeps core temp down.
- Course closes early if conditions spike — respect volunteer instructions.
